SundayStills - flowers

Some gardens just really know how to party
(hmmm, this looks way better if embiggened on your screen
so click away on all images)

I pass this house every day while at work
and finally stooped to take some photos in the early morning
creating a shadow of myself in the process

It's mostly tulips and daffodils that are out now, though I have seen some hyacinth and yesterday saw the beginnings of a purple iris.

Some flowers just don't know where to stop

Here we have a Sakura Cherry Blossom Tree grove that was donated to Burlington in 1997 from Itabashi Japan as part of our twinning.
It suddenly came into blossom last Thursday after all the rain.
Sakura is the name of the flower from the ornamental cherry tree. The cherry blossom is an omen of good fortune and is also an emblem of love, affection and represents spring. The cherry blossom symbolizes feminine beauty in China and in Japan cherry blossoms also symbolize clouds due to their nature of blooming en masse, besides being an enduring metaphor for the ephemeral and fleeting nature of life.
The transience of the blossoms, the extreme beauty and quick death, has often been associated with mortality. For this reason, cherry blossoms are richly symbolic, and have been utilized often in Japanese art, manga, anime and film.

  3. Hmmm, usually when someone gets so into flowers, they are feeling all spring fevery. Do you have your eye on someone?

  4. Those daffodils and tulips are wonderful! My tulips never come up two years running, do the house owners replant some each autumn, or have you a special soil where you live that gives everlasting life to tulips? If so, I want some!

I love cherry trees. Where we used to live we had a chalky soil and there were lots of wild cherries in the woods. They were beautiful, but for such a short time.

Kanmuri, an American in Japan, made a nice post about Hanami and sakura flowers and the ceremonial flower viewings.

  7. So much beauty on view on a nice quiet Sunday! I wonder who lives in that house with that garden? Could you take a picture of it in the summertime to show us what sort of plants there are then? I am very curious about that. At one time, I was a bit of a gardener and I wished for my garden to look like this.

  17. Wow, what a great yard!!! My favorite gardens are the kind that look all wild and overgrown. Manicured is nice but a riot of flowers and colors is better.
